Joao 's Meningitis Story

Born in the heart of Suelen Caroline and her husband, Marcos Glauber. The couple faced the disease affected by their son, João Marcos. In 2017 João survived and is the inspiration for their Project ABCM - Brazilian Association to Combat Meningitis Like most of society, parents knew about meningitis only by hearing about it. They didn't know what it was, the symptoms, the types, and much less that it could be prevented through vaccines.

It was more than 100 days in the ICU fighting for life. João had a 1% chance of surviving, but today, overflowing with joy, faith and strength, he overcomes all the sequelae that meningitis has left.

After everything they went through, the couple planned to look for ways to bring information about the disease and help, in some way, the survivors. Thus, sharing ideas with a group of friends, they discovered that there was no institution with this philosophy.

In 2021 ABCM was formed and with the motivation of raising awareness about meningitis and its prevention. In addition, empowering people, facilitating access to vaccines and supporting both survivors and their families.
